Annual Update – July 2019

So we wanted to let everyone know that we are still here. We have been busy with the research (on several different continents), and are now working to refine the information for presentation on the site. If all goes will, we will resume updates (hopefully, on a monthly basis) starting in September 2019.

Thanks for your understanding, and we will see you back here in a couple of months.

Current U.S. Federal Census Information – Surname Rankings

We have looked through the surname information that is available from the U.S. Census Bureau for the years 1990, 2000, and 2010.

In 1990, the surname GOODWIN was ranked as the 377th most recorded name.
In 2000, the surname GOODWIN was ranked as the 415th most recorded name.
In 2010, the surname GOODWIN was ranked as the 454th most recorded name.

More information on GOODWIN and the variants (GOODWYN, GODWIN, and GODWYN) that we are researching are available in our Census section. We have also included a breakdown of the percentage of ethnicity recorded for each of the names in 2000 and 2010. The information is not available for the 1990 census.

Welcome to the Goodwin One-Name Study

Welcome to the home of the Goodwin One-Name Study.

We are just getting started so the website is just taking shape. Over the next several weeks, the initial pages of the site will be filled out. Then we will start adding information on the name, its variants, what it means, where it came from, where it has gone. In addition, we will be adding to the Resources page so that others may find information to help with their research.

A One-Name Study is more of a marathon than a sprint. The site will continue to have more information added to it over the next months, and years.

If your are looking for specific information, you can use the contact form on the Support the Project page.

If you would like to help with the study, please contact me here.

We will be adding the ability to join a mailing list so you can keep up-to-date on what we have added, and how the study is proceeding.

Again, welcome, and onward with all things Goodwin.
